Japan Climate Initiative (JCI) hosted a webinar as follows, inviting JCI members who participated in COP29 (29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) held in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan from November 11 to November 24, 2024.

At COP29, a new climate finance target after 2025, which was one of the important agendas, was agreed upon, although the amount was not sufficient. In addition, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement: rules defining the methodology and mechanism of the carbon market, which had been negotiated for many years, were finally agreed upon.

This COP also took a role to create momentum to make the next NDC (Nationally Determined Contribution) more ambitious, which is supposed to be submit by each Party by the deadline of February 2025.

At the conference venue, non-state actors from around the world came together to convey their unwavering commitment to climate action and engage in various activities in an effort to have a positive influence on these Parties’ negotiations.

In this webinar, JCI members who participated in COP29 on-site shared their experiences gained through their activities and discussed future actions that must be accelerated to achieve the 1.5℃ target.
