Japan Climate Initiative (JCI) held its annual event “Japan Climate Action Summit (JCAS)” online on Wednesday, October 13, 2021.

According to the Working Group I contribution to the Sixth Assessment Report announced by the IPCC, it is unequivocal that human influence has induced global warming. While it was also found that the influence caused by climate change has been becoming more serious, the remaining amount of CO2 that is allowed to be emitted to limit the global average temperature rise to 1.5 °C is only 400 billion tonnes. Again, we recognize that it is imperative that we take urgent action towards decarbonization.

JCAS2021 played a role in sharing the efforts and experiences of various non-state actors, including Japanese companies and local governments participating in Race To Zero. Before COP26 to be held in Glasgow, UK in November, it was an opportunity to increase the momentum of efforts of non-state actors aiming to limit the temperature rise to 1.5 °C.
