The Japan Climate Initiative (JCI) has released a provisional Japanese translation of the 5th P (Persuasion) Handbook released in June 2023 by the Race To Zero.

Race to Zero is a global campaign rallying non-state actors – including companies, cities, regions, financial, educational, and healthcare institutions – to take rigorous and immediate action to halve global emissions by 2030 and deliver a healthier, fairer zero carbon world. To join and remain in the Race To Zero through the official partners, members are required to meet the Race To Zero criteria: Pledge, Plan, Proceed, Publish and Persuade.

The 5th P, “Persuade,” which was added into the first 4 Ps in July, 2022, requires Race To Zero members to actively call on their industry associations, governments, and others to take actions and policies consistent with the realization of the 1.5°C target. A handbook explaining this was released in June, 2023.

JCI calls on all non-state actors in Japan to become active in raising their voices for such policies.
