Race To Zero is a global campaign rallying non-state actors around the world, including companies, local governments, investors, and universities, to take immediate action to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2050 at the latest. Launched in June 2020, Race to Zero has grown to more than 15,700 members in 2024.

As an official partner of Race To Zero since 2020, the Japan Climate Initiative (JCI) has been promoting the participation of Japanese non-state actors in Race to Zero.

In this report, a joint letter announced by JCI in 2024, calling on the Japanese government for an ambitious 2035 target that is consistent with the 1.5 ℃ goal, was introduced as an example of policy advocacy by non-state actors.

JCI will continue to support Japan’s participation in Race to Zero and drive collaborative efforts toward decarbonization among non-state actors.
