Renewable Energy

From fiscal 2020 through fiscal 2021, Sophia School Corporation has procured 100% renewable power for our main campuses. In fiscal 2021, Sophia School Corporation procured carbon neutral LNG for the Yotsuya and Mejiro Seibo campuses. This has led to substantially net zero greenhouse gas emissions from electric power and city gas use, with the exception of some facilities, thus significantly reducing emissions by around 94.9%.

[Target year for carbon neutrality]
Scope 1 & 2 2029
Scope 3 2050

[Medium-term Targets]
・For Scope 1 emissions, city gas, which accounts for most of Scope 1, is currently being offset voluntarily by switching entirely to carbon-offset city gas.
・For Scope 2, we have replaced all electric power with renewable power in line with RE100 standards on all campuses owned by Sophia University

[Recent inventory and goals].
We reduced emissions by 13,138 t-CO2 as a voluntary initiative, compared to 13,846 t-CO2 emissions in FY2022
Scope 1 : 3,215 t-CO2
Scope 2 : 10,115 t-CO2 (location-based)
Scope 3 : 516 t-CO2 (We seek to work in parallel to improve the scope of calculation and increase emission reductions in the future.)
